Springer Spaniels Think They Are People

Springer Spaniel is a good breed to consider bringing into the home if you are looking for a dog that is easy to take care of, that has a good temperament, and that has a reputation for enjoying the company of people. The Springer Spaniel is an ideal dog for country or city life. Springers are people pleasers. They love to be around people, and they are energetic, loving companions. They are energetic and playful animals, and many owners find humor in their play. With proper training the can excel in agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are great with children and are an excellent pick for families. Of course as with any dog breed, children should always be supervised to make sure they are not antagonizing the dog.

Springers are quite friendly, and eager to please their owners. Some people have compared their temperament to the popular Golden Retriever. If it is what their families are doing, they are perfectly content with just laying around the house. They are very flexible and acclimate easily to various activity levels, as long as they are allowed to be with people as much as possible. As a breeder we have raised many puppies and we can personally definitely testify to their high levels of affection!

A full grown English Springer Spaniel weighs 35-55 pounds and is an excellent sporting dog. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. Field bred Spingers have short hair and are generally more active than the show bred types. Field bred Springers have docked tails, but their tails are docked longer than the show Springers so their tails are still functional as an alert signal while hunting.

English Springer Spaniels generally have two different variations of colored fur which are either black and white or liver and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. A white mark down the middle distinguishes them.

Bred to be natural hunter, English Springer Spaniels, have alot of energy so you can expect them to enjoy running aroung, sniffing out “game” and retrieving things for you. Springers have long been used as waterfowl and small game hunting dogs so they enjoy outdoor activities and being around water. Being a very old breed they have been popular dogs for a long, long time. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. We have seen how easily these adoring animals are accepted as a part of any family.
