Although the economy is in the tank, I figure we need to carve out some money for a little vacation once in awhile. I have wondered if you can stay on a tight budget and still get away on a short trip. Based on my time spent on several travel sites, it seems that the major online websites all can find good travel deals if I can be a little flexible.
Basically, in addition to finding the best price for airfare, car rental and hotel, it is important that you to use a travel website that has a reputation for providing a trouble-free vacation. It also occurred to me that I should find a place where I can find good prices on travel costs, and maybe where I could drive my own car to save even more. I should point out that Southern California might be a great choice.
One website I found with some great information on Southern California is the SoCal Vacation Guru site. At the present time, the site places particular emphasis on Orange County and Los Angeles County, with the stated goal of expanding its attention to San Diego County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County. But there’s great information at the SoCal Vacation Guru about Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, the beaches, shopping, dining and other activities.
The SoCal theme parks include Disneyland (with Disney’s California Adventure), Knott’s, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld and Legoland. Of course visiting all of those would not be particularly cheap, but you could fit a lot of vacation fun into a short period of time. The slow economy will be sticking with us for awhile, and the silver lining is that you can look for good resort hotel deals if you have the money for a trip, since there are a lot of motivated hotel operators even in SoCal.
You might also get better deals now for tickets to theme parks, museums and other activities. Despite increases and fluctuations in gasoline prices, a driving trip to So Cal might well be a cheaper vacation option for many Americans than flying to another vacation destination.
