A lot of consumers nowadays apply for gas credit cards as an alternative to old gas cards. Old gas card are often issued for use in only one gas company. Gas credit cards, on the other hand, are co-branded with card issuers and can be used in various gas companies.
Aside from it versatility in terms of multi-brand use, you get to take advantage of getting rebates and rewards whey you apply for gas credit cards. Gas credit cards be used not only in gas stations but with most other purchases as well. More points and rebates, however, are awarded to gas purchases than to purchase of other merchandise. Rebates can range from 1% to as much as 5% of your gas purchase depending on the issuer of your card. Some gas credit cards also give rebates on restaurant and other general purchases, usually a smaller percentage compared to gas rebates.
Before you apply for gas credit cards, make sure that you check the specifications of the card you are getting. Be informed about the financial specifications such as credit limits, service charges, fees and surcharges, over limit fees, annual fees and finance charges. More importantly, as in any type of credit card, plan to pay 100% of the balance on your credit card bill every month. And if you do leave an amount unpaid, make sure that your benefits from additional perks and rebates are more than what you have to pay for in interest.
