The following is an excerpt from the upcoming book Face-to-Face Networking Skills
by Mindy Selinger
You have all the information and resources you need to be successful, they’re lurking in the background, waiting to be discovered. Sometimes we get so busy and so focused on one aspect of our business that we “can’t see the forest for the trees”. That’s where having a PowerPartner comes in. They’ll see an opportunity for you and share it with you. They’re priceless. This comes from personal experience. Not long ago, one of my PowerPartners sent me an email of a resource that she thought I would benefit from. She included in her email exactly how she saw me using this resource. I was familiar with it. Earlier that morning I had received the very same email. But I was really busy at the time. I had so many ‘trees’ in front of my that I couldn’t see the ‘forest’ or the application that she saw for me. So I got a MASSIVE result because I took action. I’m so happy and grateful that she took a quick moment to share the opportunity with me… Good PowerPartners look out for each other. You can find an excellent PowerPartner at your local Business Networking Groups.
Peter Shankman (of HARO) on how Facebook is misused
This guy is great! I receive at least three emails a day from him, but I always read each one. (his “open rate” on nearly 50k subscribers is to die for!) PR Week Magazine has described Peter Shankman as “redefining the art of networking”. Peter is uproarious… a marathon-running, skydiving, hyper-active PR specialist and social media addict who lives with two cats (NASA and Karma). He is the founder of HARO - Help A Reporter Out. HARO is an unique business networking website. The three or so emails a day contain inquires from reporters looking for sources. I have been quoted in a national magazine! Most importantly, I know many people who are experts on many topics. I usually forward several queries every week. Some have made it to print. I love HARO because it fits so well into the philosophy I teach; become a hub through which information flows. To start forwarding queries to the experts you know, subscribe to HARO today. Perhaps it will be their “big break”. Follow his easy rules.
I wanted to share this article that Peter wrote on the misuse of Facebook invitations. Go to shankman.com to read the article. My thoughts exactly. Even though Facebook and LinkedIn are business networking sites. Being FB friends or LinkedIn Connections does not imply you want to be added to their marketing promotions. Half the time I am also on their email/announcement list, (How did that happen?) so the FB invites are duplicates. I’ll bet this is happening on FaceBook and LinkedIn. Just recently I received this message on LinkedIn: “Would you please Vote for my Mom on the website below she has entered the Macy’s “I Believe” 2009 campaign competition, to win a trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!” Hm…no…sorry. I hope you enjoyed the article and HARO!
